Laminating the Phonogram Cards?

Phonogram CardsEvery so often I get a question from All About Spelling parents about whether or not to laminate the phonogram cards. I have never needed to laminate the cards, and I use them with multiple students when I tutor. Some parents do laminate them, but just be aware that if you do, the cards won’t fit in a typical index card box! Some users have been able to find longer index card boxes at office supply stores, with a spring in back to hold up the cards.

The Phonogram Cards and Sound Cards for each level are used again in later levels. Even after your student masters them, they are periodically reviewed to keep them fresh in your student’s mind. The cards are not handled by the student during the lessons, so they stay in good shape. However, if you use the Phonogram and Sound Cards with the optional spelling games–and your kids tend to be hard on game cards–you may choose to laminate them.
